Stillwater Area Hockey Association would like to congratulate Jay Johnson on being selected nationally, as 1 of 20 winners of the Positive Coaching Alliance's 2013 Double-Goal Coach Award. The 20 winners were chosen from hundreds of nominations throughout the country.
Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) is a national nonprofit organization committed to providing all youth and high school athletes a positive, character-building youth sports experience.
Jay was nominated this past season and is a wonderful example of the caliber of coaches SAHA has.
To quote the founder of PCA, Jim Thompson, “These coaches help youth athletes succeed on and off the field by striving to win while also pursuing the more important goal of teaching life lessons through sports. By creating a positive, character-building youth sports experience, they help youth develop into better athletes and better people.”
This is truly Jay’s coaching philosophy and the Stillwater Area Hockey Association is proud to have him as a coach and role model.
Congratulations Jay, from all of us in Stillwater Area Hockey!
CHECK OUT...
It is with great honor that we congratulate and honor our very own high school coach, Phil Housley, on his recent Gold Medal success in the 2012-2013 World Junior Championships.
This accomplishment has only been achieved a few times in the history of this tournament and to have our very own Phil Housley be the head coach of this successful USA team is extraordinary.
Please join me in congratulating Phil and the rest of Team USA on bringing home the Gold!
Tom Sagissor, Director of Boys Hockey
Mike Timmons, President of SAHA
Nick Wohlers, Director of Girls Hockey
Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton signed a new bill into law on June 8, 2011 that now requires all coaches to sideline athletes who show signs of a concussion. Those athletes cannot return to activity until they get cleared by a state licensed MEDICAL health care provider. Minnesota now joins 20 states with similar laws taking effect.
The law took effect September 1, 2011
This applies to all players, in all sports, under the age of 18 and applies to ALL youth sports organizations both PUBLIC and PRIVATE.
The law also requires that parents have access to information on the risks and symptoms of concussions and coaches must have training on concussions once every 3 years.
COACHES, please use the following link to take the required, free, quick, online concussion training session. Print the completion certificate---it must be filed in your Team Book.
Videos, training plans and talk directly with the program director Lance Pitlick to become a better stick handler and puck professional!
The increased penalty time for boarding and checking-from-behind has been extended to the 2012-2013 hockey season.
