Heads Up Hockey

Safety techniques from USA Hockey on how to prevent head injuries.

Is your player's stick plugged and taped properly at the top?

A cut-to-size graphite stick that is not plugged or taped properly on the cut end is an accident waiting to happen.

If your son or daughter is using a graphite stick and if it is cut to size, make sure the cut end either has a rubber plug (most hockey sporting goods store sell these) or is taped properly. If you are not sure, ask one of the coaches.

Parents please make sure that your skaters are playing with safe equipment.

IMPORTANT: Protecting the Health of Our Players...

SAHA COACHES, PARENTS, AND PLAYERS-

In an effort to prevent a wide spread outbreak of viruses (H1N1, influenza, common cold, etc...) and protect the health of our players, SAHA is recommending ALL players to PROVIDE THEIR OWN PERSONAL WATER BOTTLE---CLEARLY LABELED with their FIRST AND LAST NAME--- for all tryouts, pre-skates, practices, off-ice activities, and games throughout the upcoming season.  It is important to continually encourage and remind your child to not share water bottles with others.  This is especially critical with the younger players (Mites/U8 and Squirts/U10 levels).

Some other critical measures to consider...

  • Keep your child home if they are sick!  There is a plan in place to accommodate those players who become sick during pre-skates and tryouts.  If your child does become ill during their scheduled pre-skate/tryout time, contact the level tryout director asap.
  • Encourage players to wash their hands regularly---especially after being in shared environments (locker room, bathroom, etc.).
  • Ask players to enter and exit the locker rooms and facility as quickly as possible .

Thank you for your cooperation with this important effort!
