Ponies ready for game time!
The Stillwater Squirt B1 Black team were champions of their bracket at the Fargo International tournament (Feb 19-21) with a record of 4-1-0, defeating Brainerd 5-0 in the finals.
The Ponies opened the tournament with a 4-2 victory over Sartell. They had another close contest with Grand Forks, falling 2-1 in the afternoon game.
This did not deter the Ponies from going on a scoring barrage the rest of the way, taking down Fargo Freeze Saturday morning 6-3 and then followed with a close 6-5 victory over Minnetonka Blue to advance to the bracket championship game.
Ponies are introduced prior to their 5-0 championship win over Brainerd.
Saving the best game for last, Stillwater closed out with the aforementioned shutout at Scheels Arena, the 5,000-seat facility which is the home of the Fargo Force of the USHL.
The Ponies outscored their opponents 17-8 in bracket play and tallied 23 goals total for the tournament (4.6 goals per game average).
Stillwater will not have much rest as it will have to gear up for District 2 foe Forest Lake on Tuesday, before heading down to Rochester on Saturday. It will also travel to Moorhead for a tournament on March 18, before the district playoffs begin.
SAHA was all smiles celebrating their championship win over Brainerd.
